Our Backyard – Anglesea

Welcome to Anglesea

BIG WEDNESDAY! The surf was absolutely amazing this week with six – eight foot waves on coast! There has been some incredible footage taken at Bells Beach and around 100 surfers took advantage of the excellent conditions. See below link –  surf coast surf report on Instagram.

The swell followed on from wild weather and winds on Tuesday, giving us all a timely reminder to get our properties in order for the winter. Check leaking roofs, clear out gutters, tidy up trees and branches and make sure there are no inviting spaces for possums or other creatures to create a warm home!

In Anglesea eight kayakers were rescued by surf lifesavers after they were pushed out to sea by the strong winds. It’s important for surfers or swimmers to only head out in the water if you are super experienced and confident.

Along with the wind and rain, there has also been bursts of sunshine and rainbows! I walk every day and the beauty of being one minute to the beach, is reading the breaks in the weather and heading out when I can.

Last year my colleague had a distressed call about a gorgeous dog that was going to be put down and needed to be saved, as it turned out literally 12 months earlier to the week, my 19 year old Jack Russell, had passed away here in Anglesea.’Ruski’ died one week after I started working and living permanently in Anglesea and I always thought she left me when she thought I had finally made it to a place I should be.  I took this timing as a sign and made a decision to take on Rosie! She is 11 and was in need of an operation and was in a lot of discomfort. Liz Brown is a fantastic local Vet in Aireys Inlet and did a great job in getting Rosie healthy again. I needed to toilet train Rosie and teach her how to be an inside dog as she wasn’t familiar with the comforts of a home. I can say now 6 months later she is healthy, happy and loving Anglesea life……. Funnily enough she is a Jack Russell too! I have to share this photo from Tuesday showing her joy at finding the end of the rainbow and loving the all year round dog beach. Perhaps she thinks she’s in heaven……… just like me!
