Our Backyard Anglesea & Torquay

We often get questioned in real estate about specific dealings in negotiations and transactions, questions about what is legally, ethically and morally right and wrong. The simple answer is that there are clear guidelines we are required to follow, we learn these in order to receive our accreditation, initially ‘agents representative certificate’ and then after years of actual experience in the industry, the next higher level which is ‘licensed estate agent’. The latter is required to hold positions such as a branch manager or director within a real estate company.

Undertaking the role of a real estate agent is governed by guidelines documented and outlined in Consumer Affairs legislation ‘The Estate Agents Act’ and more specifically ‘Professional Conduct’

The Estate Agents (Professional Conduct) Regulations 2018 set out the standard of conduct expected of agents and agents’ representatives in their day-to-day dealings with clients (sellers and landlords) and consumers (buyers and tenants).

More than this though, it’s an industry that meshes the lines of personal with professional, so when dealing with all our clients, consumers, staff and colleagues, there is a level of expectation to be an upstanding citizen.  Of high importance is to treat people with respect, equality, dignity, honesty and integrity.  As a result, how we treat those closest to us is very much a reflection on the person we are and what we project outwardly to those we deal with. Reputation is everything in this business. The one guideline I think sums this up perfectly and I hold the closest, is this one:

Act fairly, honestly, in good faith and to the best of their knowledge and ability at all times

Often we are dealing with very sensitive situations, families going through grief over a death and having to work through the estate following the loss of a loved one. Then there is divorce, separation of couples and the division of assets, other awkward situations for example infidelity. People doing it tough financially with the inability to carry debt so needing to sell or simply just needing to downsize, getting out of homes that are too big or wanting to free up some cash tied up in property.

I’ve said this before but women in this industry, and also in life, certainly have to strive harder to get ahead, along with fighting the constant battle of being treated & paid equally. So we need to be both strong but also sensitive & empathetic.

With all this in mind, I was absolutely thrilled in my position of Branch Manager, for our Agency in Anglesea to be awarded with rate my agent ‘Agency of the year 2020’. This award is based on positive client reviews from vendors and buyers. Very fulfilling, as the ratio of receiving both from the individual sales transaction experience is what qualifies to receive this award. A big thank you to the sales team, Ben and Sharlene along with all the staff members within the branch including Holiday Accommodation and Property Management as this award is very much a team one!
